Our First Impression of the King Louis XIV Suite

A Warm Welcome: Stepping into Our Luxurious, Themed Escape

We were already buzzing with excitement before we even stepped inside the building. It felt like the adventure began as we entered the shared entrance space and the home felt like it greeted us. It made everything feel more exciting, like something magical was about to happen. Once we found the door to our King Louis XIV suite at the Romantic Adventure Getaways in Ohio, we entered our unique code and, bam, the first puzzle was right there. No pressure, though, this one was fun and not too challenging. As the door to our suite clicked open, we were finally able to see this huge, themed space and followed the white rose petals to our first puzzle.

We were so impressed! Even after looking at every photo I could find online, nothing compares to walking into this space. I had to just stand there for a moment and take it all in. The King Louis XIV suite is drenched in bold color, charming themed decorations, and full of mystery and surprises. The themed decor really helps you step out of reality for your stay and get in the mindset for a fun, romantic adventure.

Unveiling the Adventure: Our First Look at the Suite Details

Oh, and the bed! THE largest bed in Ohio? They weren’t kidding, it was massive! I’m talking about needing a couple of stairs to climb into it. To make it feel even more personal and sweet, we were greeted with rose petals* arranged with our names on the foot of the bed. Little touches like that made our visit feel even more special and made it clear they truly care about making our stay unforgettable with every detail.

We could not wait to get started! The second clue was waiting for us, and we couldn’t resist jumping right in. Solving that first clue started us on our adventure discovering secret doors, slides, and passages, It was almost like being in a Scooby-Doo mansion. The King Louis XIV suite was a full-on immersive experience but it rewards you with some awesome ways to relax together, too. It’s perfect for couples who love surprises, a little adventure, and relaxation as a way to connect and be together.

Pro Tip: Explore Before You Solve. I suggest taking a moment to walk through your suite and get acclimated to the space, it may come in handy to see your space before you start solving puzzles.

Hidden Gems: Features of the King Louis XIV Suite – a Romantic Escape in Ohio

Hey there! I’m going to describe what we thought of each secret room and amenity, if you want to be surprised, just skip this section!

Secret Rooms to Discover and Enjoy

Of the three suites on the property, I think the King Louis XIV suite has the most relaxing elements to it. I’ve realized we rarely take trips where we can relax and unwind, so this room was perfect for us. (However, the other two rooms look super fun, too!). Here are the secret rooms you’ll find in this suite.

Himalayan Salt Cave of Tranquility

Oh how I wanted to stay in this room the entire trip! Designed to feel like you’re deep in a tranquil salt cave, enjoy relaxing sounds, Himalayan salt rocks to enjoy some halo therapy, and the coziest full body massage chairs. Don’t worry, you can return to this room as many times as you’d like during your stay!

Prom Room Experience

A familiar prom scene, a sparkling disco ball, and songs you choose? Such a sweet way to connect and reminisce over your favorite song. I chose the song we had our first dance to “Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson. This song’s use didn’t surprise me, but hearing it still took me back to our wedding day.

Purple Potion Room

We got to pretend to be personal masseuse’s in this small, cozy secret space. We opted for the massage guns over the oils, and the knots in my lower back and shoulders melted away. I’ve never used a massage gun before, but now I’m a fan!

Salvador Body Room

Creativity abounded in this secret space. One of the more fun room entrances lead us to some body paints already warming up for us and a blank canvas**. The canvas is embedded in a flat table with a leather-like material making it easy to create. My husband didn’t want to get too messy, so we kept it simple, but that’s what’s so fun – this piece can be whatever you want it to be. You can get as messy as you feel comfortable with. They provide towels in this room to help clean up and I like that they had a ring light stand if you wanted to document your adventure.

Mayan Rainforest Jet Tub Experience

I thought this was the perfect way to end our romantic adventures! Soaking in the bubbly jacuzzi jet tub was so relaxing. Plus, it helped clean up the leftover paint from the Salvador room. There were multiple options and detailed instructions to help you along the way.

The Biggest Bed in Ohio: Comfort Fit for Royalty

It’s going to be hard to not notice the MASSIVE Versailles Bed in the King Louis XIV suite. From the moment you walk into the space it dominates your view. There are a couple of steps leading up to the bed at the end of it, and a step on each side to help you get in. You’ll find layers of pillows, a quilt and sheet set up, and a comfy, foam-like mattress on the bed. There’s a TV located inside the bed canopy and you’ll discover some secret surprises unlocked from the kings treasure chest at the head of the bed as one of your last puzzles to solve.

Other amenities: Cozy robes for each of you. A full kitchen space, fridge with complimentary water and juice, a charming table for two with a bucket of complimentary snacks. A bathroom full of vintage charm and a clawfoot tub.

Why this Resort is the Perfect Adventure-Filled Getaway for Couples in Ohio

In our case, we often plan vacations jam-packed with activities and don’t account for very much down time to relax together. I really liked that aspect of our stay at the Romantic Adventure Getaways because not only did it provide several ways to relax, but it also made it fun to do with the puzzle solving, secret rooms, slides, and crawl spaces. • Couples who live a busy lifestyle and don’t often get time to themselves
• Those who still like to be a little playful and have fun
• People who want a little mystery and challenge

Are you wondering who this adventure is not for? Here are my thoughts:

• If you know you or your partner may not enjoy having to solve puzzles to enter the suite or find other hidden rooms to reveal amenities as well as being open to potentially new experiences and not necessarily being aware of what comes next, this is not the stay for you.
• This adventure may not be for you if physical limitations prevent you from crawling, climbing, squeezing through tight spaces, or lifting your legs 1-2 feet to climb into raised entrances.

You know your body and personalities the best. The hosts are very responsive and can answer questions you may have to help you decide.

Adventure and Romance in Ohio: Things to Know Before You go

Romantic Adventure Getaways is available in two locations in Ohio

• Mt. Vernon: Ideal for couples in Northeast and central Ohio like Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo, and even as far as Pittsburgh and Detroit areas.
• Hillsboro: Perfect for couples in Southwestern and central Ohio like Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, and even as far as Indianapolis, Louisville, and Lexington.

Each location has 3 themed suites within, and honestly all of these look like so much fun! While I’ve said our room was the most relaxing, all of these rooms look like they are much more adventurous. Be sure to check out the website for the full descriptions, here are a few highlights that caught my eye. If I were to choose another room, I’d have a hard time choosing between Night in Paris and Paradise Lost.

• Night in Paris: Sleep in a cake-shaped bed, enjoy coffee at the Paris cafe, dress up for the ball, visit the Louvre for massage chairs, and even check out Moulin Rouge.
• Pleasure Island: Sleep in a royal pirate ship bed, dress up like pirates, have fun at a game show, and several more fun adventures.
• Wizard Romance: All of you Harry Potter fans out there will love this room! Sleep in Piggywarts Castle Bed, bathe in Hagred’s bath, take a Quittitch selfie challenge, and so many more things to do.

Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Visit to Romantic Adventure Getaways in Ohio

• Reserve in advance! As with anywhere, weekends book up fast. Be open to mid-week adventures if you can. If your room of choice is out, consider other room options may be available on your date.
• Keep the full details to yourself if possible, so your partner can enjoy surprises along the way.
• Consider the extras: Aside from the rose petals, most of the extras are “pay if you use them”. Be sure to read the details of your room to understand what extras are available for you.
• Be open to trying new things, let your inner kid come out and be playful. It’s just the two of you, so be as silly as you want together.
• Think out of the box for your puzzle solving. As mentioned before acquaint yourself with the room once you enter, answers are all around you.
• Don’t stress if you get stuck! There are QR codes you can scan to help you solve. We had to use this at least one time. Once you scan the QR code, it takes you to a less obvious hint at first. If you still can’t solve it, you can keep scrolling down to get a more detailed help.
• Read everything they send you and follow all rules exactly. The suites are all set up on timers and sensors. You will not be able to enter until the check-in time using your unique code.
• Research the area before you go and make a list of places to eat.
• While you will have your phones on you and wifi access, try to avoid scrolling mindlessly. Example, if you’re sitting in a massage chair, don’t check on your social media – actually relax and enjoy the massage.

What Should You Bring on Your Adventure Getaways for Couples?

Just a few extra things I’d suggest to help you along the way with your Romantic Adventure Getaways in Ohio.

Your phone, fully charged: You’re going to potentially want to scan a QR code for assistance or document your adventure. Having a fully charged phone helps!

A fully charged portable phone battery: If you’re like me and take lots of photos and video, this could be helpful. Or if your phone is older and the battery tends to wear out quickly.

A small phone light: The rooms are very dimly lit, so you’ll need to take long exposures and stay still until they’re complete, or use an inexpensive light that clips to your phone.

Your slippers: They ask you remove your shoes after you enter to help not track the outside throughout the suite. I liked having a pair of slippers to keep my toes warm and give me a little grip when walking around.

Extra drinks: the suite provides 2 small water bottles and 2 juice drinks (this may differ), if you know you need caffeine outside of coffee like me, or know you’re going to get extra thirsty, be sure to bring some extra drinks.

A Perfect Ohio Road Trip: Exploring Mt. Vernon

Our romantic adventure begins on a Saturday with a road trip to Mt. Vernon, Ohio. A small Ohio town just under 2-hours drive from Downtown, Cleveland. Our overnight stay is set to begin promptly at 5pm, so we decided to head down early to check out the charming downtown area.

Keep an eye out for my mini Mt. Vernon Itinerary! In the meantime, here are a few great spots you can check out while in town, or you can check out the Visit Knox County website to find more.

Mt. Vernon Ohio Favorites

• Woolson Co: Family-owned for over 120 years, this general store is filled with vintage and new finds from. pottery, candles, one-of-a-kind lamps, art, and much more. After chatting with the owner, I learned the Wes Anderson-esque, photogenic pink facade of the shop was built by him and his father, how sweet.
• Paragraph Books: Small, local shop with a great selection of books. I loved the table up front with the employees stacks of recommendations from the past year of reading.
• Old Mr. Bailiwick’s: This small but whimsical apothecary-inspired shop is filled to the brim with bulk herbs, natural remedies, as well as unique gifts and art. Step back in time with your visit.
• Whit’s Frozen Custard: This shop is on the outskirts of downtown but worth a visit. Rich, delicious custard-style ice cream in a hefty portion sure to be a special treat.
• South Main Plaza Fountain: The cutest water fountain I’ve ever seen! Even covered in snow I could tell it’s worth a visit. The fountain is surrounded by adorable dog and other animal characters that the water fountain flows through. Adorable!
• Bickerdyke Table & Tap: We stopped here for dinner. Very cute, stylish restaurant and a menu full of variety.

Pro Tip: Many shops and businesses shut down around 3pm-5pm on Saturday and are not open on Sundays. If you want to add a little more fun to your trip, be sure to account for some extra time early on so you can explore during the day! This was such a unique and fun experience that we’ll remember for a long time. The excitement of finding a new hidden room, of getting to experience the activity or relaxing element of that room, and just having a fun weekend together relaxing and reconnecting was really special.
