Things We Ate Seattle, Washington

Trees and Seattle city skyline
Ah, Seattle

One of our favorite parts of travel is trying out the local fare and the things we ate in Seattle, Washington was a good mix of local flavors and sweets. We like to find places that you can’t find where you live. On a few days’ visit to Seattle on a larger trip to the Pacific Northwest, we found several amazing spots. From Pike Place Market and throughout the city, we had some memorable dishes. Here are some of our favorites!

We chose the Pink Door to have our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. In fact, this may be the moment I decided that Bolognese Pappardelle was my official favorite pasta dish. I ordered the Pappardelle al Ragù Bolognese while Nathan had the Fettuccine Al Limon and we also had some cocktails. We ate outside on the patio, however, the interior is very unique and funky and the outside was charming. The food was unforgettable and I still think about this dish today making the food here one of our favorite things we ate in Seattle, Washington. Also, can we talk about their marketing collateral? Definitely collection-worthy. (if you’re like me and collect gorgeous paper printed collateral from places you visit!)

Oh my gosh, Vons 1000 Spirits became one of our favorites! We visited a couple of times on our short trip to Seattle. I kept getting the Original Mac and 4 Cheese dish which had semolina sourdough pasta made in-house and a mix of Pike Place Market Beecher’s Flagship, Reggiano, Grande whole milk mozzarella, Farmstead fontina cheeses. Extremely memorable. We also tried the Spicy Fennel Meatballs with Lusty Lady Marinara which were so tasty and a burger. This spot is a must-visit and considering we made multiple visits, it ranks up there with one of the best things we ate in Seattle.

Beecher’s Handmade Cheese

Oh, how we love cheese. I was really excited to try out Beecher’s Handmade Cheese! We decided to share a Grilled Cheese that is a combination of their Flagship and Just Jack cheeses and was melty and crisped to perfection. We also tried a small portion of their  “Worlds Best” Mac & Cheese”, a blend of the Flagship and Just Jack cheeses. I could eat this every day, so good, definitely one of our favorite things we ate in Seattle!

You can eat your delicious, cheesy goodness inside the cafe where you can watch them make cheese in a ginormous tank which is pretty cool to see.

Tip: While eating your way through Pike Place Market, get small portions you can share with your travel partner if possible. This gives you more opportunities to taste all the delicious food and drink Pike Place Market has to offer!

The Pacific Northwest really loves their biscuits! Honest Biscuit is one of a few different biscuit restaurants we visited located inside the Pike Place Market. We tried the Butterhole Biscuit and these biscuits are HUGE and sharable and just look at that cake-like texture on the inside. Very tasty.

We found Honest Biscuits inside the Pike Place Market in the MarketFront Producers Hall area. There was some seating where you can watch the market shoppers go to and from.

On our walk to visit the Space Needle, we decided to try another biscuit restaurant called Biscuit Bitch. Like I said above, the Pacific Northwest really loves their biscuits! We split an order of their Biscuits and Gravy Straight Up Bitch! Opting for the classic country sausage gravy option over the vegetarian mushroom-based gravy, it was pretty tasty! Plus, they were playing a Bone Thugs-N-Harmoney song and made me feel all Cleveland-y, I enjoyed the nod to home and how random it is to hear their music outside of Cleveland

Things we ate: Seattle Sweet Treats

I’m fairly new to doughnuts. I mean, I’ve had doughnuts before but not until the last couple of years did I really embrace them as a delicious treat. While we were exploring Pike Place Market, we stopped in Top Pot Hand-Forged Doughnuts & Coffee and grabbed some doughnuts to have later in the day having just filled ourselves with delicious cheesy goodness at Beecher’s. I got the Oreo cookie flavor, I really can’t remember what Nathan got, but I do remember they were quite delicious-even later in the day. The shop was a cute spot with a glass case full of beautiful, sugary doughnuts where you can pick up a quick bite and these were one of the more delicious things we ate in Seattle.

So, right around the corner from Top Pot, we had to pick up some cupcakes for later, too. Cupcake Royal was a cute and cheeky little spot full of cupcakes, ice cream, and other treats as well as some fun merchandise. We picked up two flavors to enjoy when we returned to the hotel later, Dance Party and Triple Threat. Dance Party had a pink buttercream frosting on vanilla buttercream with sprinkles and Triple Threat was a chocolate cake frosted with chocolate buttercream and dark chocolate curls. Mmmm.

Rachel’s Ginger Beer

This was a spot my husband wanted to visit as I am not much of a ginger beer connoisseur. Rachel’s Ginger Beer is an adorable spot on Post Alley located just near Pike Place Market. Long tables and plenty of seating filled this spot as well as an adorably illustrated mural and cute branding. I ended up getting a cup of soft-serve while he drank his ginger beer.

Not only is this shop interior photogenic, but it’s also at the corner of Post Alley, a very photogenic sign. To the right of this sign is the famous Public Market sign over Pike Place Market. Both great photo-ops!

Have you ever had a liège waffle? These are the second ones I’ve had and they are just on a whole other level compared to other waffles. Sweet Iron Waffles was a short walk from our hotel and we got breakfast there one morning on our last day in Seattle. A small, little shop where you can customize your waffle with a variety of toppings.

Love the patterns on the surface of Lake Erie. Too Love the patterns on the surface of Lake Erie. Took a short road trip east of Downtown Cleveland this weekend to see what the Lake Erie Bluffs were all about. A little snowy so we didn’t go down to the beach access, however we did climb the towers for a full view of Lake Erie. Serene and beautiful with little to no wind making the chill bearable and the Lake super calm.
