New Years Eve Staycation at The Schofield Hotel in Downtown Cleveland

Found In: Cleveland

Having been a long, rough year, I decided to book a staycation at the Schofield Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio for NYE. A much-needed change of scenery after many months of staying home!

Want to learn more about this hotel? Visit The Schofield’s website

As one of the newer and more trendy hotels in town, its historic facade really stands out in the crowd of grey and beige-colored buildings. Part hotel, part residence, it’s full of style and uniqueness that is common for Kimpton hotels.

Suitcase Style

I bought a new suitcase this year and was excited to get a chance to use it again. I got The Bigger Carry-On in green from Away and absolutely love it. My favorite part is the battery charger and how spacious it is.

A Historic Building with a Modern Touch

A Cozy Space

We booked the Deluxe City View room which had a bathroom with two vanities separated by a huge glass shower. A comfy bed with ample room, seating, storage spaces, and amazing city views.

A Spa-Like Shower Experience

Our room had the dreamiest shower set up. Spacious, strong water pressure and nice smelling atelier Bloem hair and body wash made it feel very spa-like. The room has two vanities with a large shower in between and a small toilet room. Not to mention there was also an ample amount of soft towels which is always a good thing.

Some of the Best Hotel Views in Cleveland

I love the view from our hotel window. This vintage building now houses a local grocery store with an amazing stained glass rotunda ceiling. A must-visit for an obligatory Cleveland photo op.

The hotel left us some treats, how sweet!

A Late Lunch Stroll in Downtown Cleveland

Support Local While in Town

One of the great things about a staycation in Cleveland at the Schofield Hotel is its location. Nestled on the corner of Euclid and E.9th, you are within short walking distance to many Cleveland attractions. After checking in, we decided to take a stroll down to Citizen Pie’s Roman Cafe. A Rome-inspired pizza joint located on one of Cleveland’s most popular streets, E. 4th. The cafe has spacious seating and two narrow window seat areas we chose to sit in.

Lots of tasty options to choose from.

Read more about Citizen Pie’s Roman Cafe and their Rome inspired pizza and technique on their website.

After walking around down E. 4th St. we decided to visit the Arcade on Euclid which was still decorated for Christmas and looked beautiful.

Stay Cozy with Bett’s Hotel Room Service

After strolling around downtown we decided it was time to head back to the room to relax. Our walk tired us out and we relaxed and watched episodes of The Twilight Zone and then decided to order room service for dinner. One of the benefits of a Cleveland staycation is you can get room service from The Schofield Hotel’s newest restaurant, Betts. We had reservations for one of their outdoor greenhouse seating but decided to stay cozy in our room instead and canceled prior to our visit.

You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy eating at Betts! Be sure to ask for one of their outdoor greenhouses for an extra safe dining experience. Also, don’t worry about the cold, they are heated!

Eat at Betts, Seriously

Bett’s is the hotel’s newest restaurant that replaced the previous occupant and I love the upgrade. We ate brunch here once in the outdoor tents (they are heated!) and it was so good. We couldn’t wait to try dinner.

I ordered my favorite pasta dish Pappardelle Bolognese which uses fresh Ohio City pasta, yum! Husband ordered the Market Plate fillet with sides of Boursin Bacon Mac & Cheese and Adobo Beans & Rice. In addition to our meal, we also got an order of pretzel sticks to share. The only downside is that the food is delivered as if it was takeout in boxes not plated. This might be a Covid related food safety thing, though.

Check out my other Cleveland themed posts for more ideas on what to do in town.

Such a classic episode of The Twilight Zone
Cheers! This was the prettiest bottle!

After watching the ball drop in NYC on tv, we fell asleep to The Twilight Zone. Sweet dreams of 2021 being a better year for us all.

We had requested a late checkout and decided to lazily get up and get room service for breakfast from Bett’s. We both ordered the Betts’ Breakfast with a Belgian Waffle to share. So good!

We loved our stay at The Schofield and highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a little getaway. If you are local, ask if the local pricing special is going on which can save you a good amount. You’ll have to show your ID to prove you are a resident.

Did you know there is a book-themed brewery in Cle Did you know there is a book-themed brewery in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood? Bookhouse Brewing, a local brewery making ciders and beers in a historic building from the 1800’s previously owned by the Baehr family-read more on Bookhouse’s website about previous occupants and the interesting history. Lots of original details can be seen throughout the brewery, too. Definitely worth a visit when in town, it’s in the heart of one of the most popular Cleveland neighborhoods and minutes from Downtown Cleveland. In fact, due to a new park being built along the Cuyahoga River nearby, the brewery has an amazing view of downtown due to some buildings being taken down. Killer views, amazing interior aesthetic, and great beers (and other drinks for us non-beer drinkers!)

Check out my travel guides on the blog for more on the historic Ohio City neighborhood.
