Hotels We Love: The Ace Downtown Los Angeles

Destinations

The Ace Hotel in Downtown LA is in a restored historic building and the detail and charm are evident throughout the building and its facade. In its past life, the hotel was The United Artists Building, a movie mecca with a theater bringing in some of the top stars of the 1920s.

The facade was designed in a Spanish Gothic style which the Ace kept true to, working around this incredible detail and adding little design extras that brand the building as a true Ace property. I was enamored by this hotel entryway. The attention to detail is incredible and something you don’t see in modern construction.

Love Hotels? Me, too. Check out other hotels I’ve shared on the blog here

The Hotel Room

We booked a small room and it was the perfect size for the two of us. Our room was appointed with a comfortable queen-sized bed that was low to the ground. Covered with pillows, a duvet, and a brightly covered Pendelton blanket. We found ourselves sleeping quite cozily after our daily adventures in the city and by the shore. Our room also had a record player with some records available to play which was a nice surprise.

I absolutely love the details of the room. The patina gold fixtures, the color palette, the toiletries, the textures. Everything worked together so well. This was a small space and it was utilized to the fullest. The opposite wall from the bed worked as a hanging place for items you may use more often. The furnishings were minimal, however, everything was functional and nothing was just for show.

The Hotel Interior

Love the stencil detail on the elevators
Dark and simple hallways

The interior of the hotel spared no detail. Simple, clean, and detail-oriented.

Love a checkerboard floor
Details well thought out everywhere

The Hotel Exterior

Hotel restaurant outdoor seating
United Artists facade
Ever changing billboard sign
Rooftop bar views

The hotels’ great sense of design doesn’t stop with the rooms. I loved the decor of the outdoor seating at the hotels’ restaurant Best Girl. We didn’t have time to check out the food but the restaurant looked amazing from passing by.

929 South Broadway

What to know before you go
The Ace Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel and not meant for the budget-conscious. Prices are generally in the 250-1000+ a night range depending on the type of room you want and when you book. Rooms often have a minimalistic approach to design providing the essentials and not a lot of fluff. Obviously the more you spend the more spacious your room and the finer the amenities.

Rooms are all unique. While abiding by a similar style, it’s rare a room would be identical.

Amenities
Room service, free wifi, pet-friendly, fully-stocked minibar, 24-hour gym, valet parking day and night, pool, classic photo booth (I didn’t know about this!) free bike rentals, and more. A shop is on-site where you can buy the amenities from your room or other branded gear.

Dining & Drinks
Best Girl: named after My Best Girl, the first film screened in the theatre attached to the hotel, Best Girl is a neighborhood bistro serving lunch, brunch, dinner, des, ert and drinks.
The Mezzanine: a crow’s nest above Best Girl with a long, communal table and family-style service.
Upstairs: Get food and drinks in an outdoor cafe setting or poolside.
Coffee Counter: Service from Best Girl, a quick and convenient coffee shop.
Room Service: from Best Girl

Of course there is the New Orleans style revelry, but did you know Cleveland celebrated 3 other cultural festivities with ties to Mardi Gras?

PLUS Did you know Cleveland is also going to have a Mardi Gras parade and big celebration downtown?

We even have a New Orleans-themed restaurant!

It doesn’t end there- I also reviewed menus from so many local restaurants, bakeries and other shops to find who is making Beignets, King Cakes, Paczki, New Orleans cocktails, and delicious Cajun & Creole food.

If you love this, please share! If you learned something new or feel I forgot somewhere, let me know in the comments 💜💚💛

This is my new favorite Ohio winter hike! Our sec This is my new favorite Ohio winter hike!

Our second hike on our goal of hiking 24 new-to-us trails this year was also our first snowy hike of the year.

@lakemetroparks feed influenced me to add this park to our list. The vivid hemlock trees really pop against the snowy and leafless tree landscape. It was so worth the drive to get there.

What I liked most was how much visual and trail surface variety this park has. It’s a new favorite and I hope to return in the spring when an abundance of wildflowers are said to be in bloom.

You’ve got to see this place, it’s dreamy.
