Good restaurants is something Cleveland thrives at and living in town we find ourselves checking out new hot spots and old favorites quite often. Here’s a list of some of the best things I ate in Cleveland this year.
Cheesy Corn Dip at Barroco
This cheese dip is nothing less of life changing. I know I’ve said this about Barrio’s Queso, but this is next level amazing. This taste like the richest mac and cheese sauce with pops of corn throughout. You can add chicken, chorizo or veggies. They serve this up with arepa fries (omg the besssstttt) and tortilla chips for when you devour the arepa fries and still have some cheesy dip to get through. If you get anything at Barroco make sure it’s their Cheesy Corn Dip. Thank me later.
Pizza & Salad at Il Rione
The salad here is almost as good as the pizza. Il Rione Pizzeria opened in 2017 and won Cleveland over. They were selling out of dough balls daily and rightfully so. Even now we get there to find out there are only a few balls of dough left. This pizza is considered a New York-style pizza – it’s thin with a perfect crust and the flavor? So good. The salads are fresh and give you plenty.
Fire Roasted Sweet Corn at Sauce the City
I love street corn so much. It’s just got a little something regular corn on the cob doesn’t. We were excited to see it on the menu at Sauce the City inside the Ohio City Galley. We picked up take out from here more than I’d like to admit and the corn was an add on quite often. I always get the original minus the signature dressing (aka mayo, gross). They insist the rest won’t stick but it works perfectly for me.
Burger, Fries, & a Shake at Good Co.
So we tried Good Co. out this year, from the crew who made The Plum, and it did not disappoint. I mean, for starters just look at that logo… the swirl of the lettering is dreamy, the color palette… okay, okay… sometimes the designer in me gets carried away at restaurants but who can resist some well-designed collateral?! I digress… this milkshake has such an interesting texture and flavor and I can’t explain it you just gotta try it out. I get the vanilla shake each time we visit. The burger is good and has what they call a ilk bun which has a light and airy feeling to it and a unique taste. The fries have a very fresh taste and feel to them as well.
Guacamole at Hola Tacos
There was a time when I did not like guacamole but as I tried more of it I learned some people make it much, much better than others. This guac came straight out of an immersion blender because it has the smoothest texture ever which is guacamole I can approve of. (chunks, Ewww)
Chicken Taquitos at Bakersfield
Their tacos are pretty good but when I discovered their chicken taquitos on the menu I haven’t looked back. Crispy blue corn tortilla shells wrap grilled chicken, cotija cheese, chives, and a spicy enchilada sauce. So, so good. Please never stop making this.
Ice cream at Mason's Creamery
Mason’s Creamery is one of our favorite ice cream shops. They do unique flavors well – a good mix of weird and unusual and classics that have a little something for everyone. This year I loved their Cookies & Cream, Capt’n Crunch and Cocoa Puff flavors. also, hyper color spoons!
Well, there you have it. Some of the best things I ate this year. As I was making this list I realized we ate at the same places quite often this year so there wasn’t as much variety as there was in my mind. Either way, Cleveland is full of delicious food and I can’t wait for to enjoy it all and try new places in 2020.
Did you have a favorite thing you ate this year?
