The Must-Visit Ice Cream Shops in Cleveland

Mason’s Creamery
Mason’s Creamery is an Ohio City neighborhood favorite with inventive flavors, and a fun, laid-back environment. I especially love their seasonal treats, like their version of a shamrock shake. Also, in the winter, they change over to a popular ramen noodle shop. You can always count on getting something incredibly tasty when you visit Mason’s.
Visit | 4401 Bridge Avenue

Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream
Another Cleveland favorite is Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream. I love to visit their flagship shop in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. It includes a giant kitchen where you can watch them make ice cream which is so cool to see. They serve their trusty regular flavors and mix it up seasonally with the occasional themed treat. My absolute favorite flavor is their Swiss White Chocolate and I’m sad I can’t get it year-round.
Visit | Featured Ohio City shop: 1867 West 25th Street

Honey Hut
A Cleveland ice cream shop that’s been around since the ’70s. We often get our Honey Hut Ice Cream at a location that serves their ice cream rather than an actual shop like in Huntington Beach’s The Noshery, but there are several actual shop locations to visit.
Visit | Huntington Beach, Bay Village Ohio (shown), and other locations

Cathy’s Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches
Huge, delicious fresh-baked cookies filled with a giant scoop of ice cream? Yes, please! Cathy’s Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches are the perfect treat. You can find these tasty ice cream sandwiches in Downtown Cleveland near popular E4th Street. (And if you’re in Atlanta, Georgia area they just opened a shop there, too!).
Visit | 401 Euclid Avenue

Remixx Ice Cream & Cereal Bar
A made-to-order ice cream experience where their ice cream machines create soft-serve ice cream out of scoops of cereal and other toppings. Remixx Ice Cream even makes milkshakes, yum.
Visit | 11512 Clifton Boulevard, Cleveland Ohio

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream
Just east of downtown Cleveland Ohio in Chagrin Falls is the beloved Columbus-based ice cream shop Jeni’s. This is the only North East Ohio location of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream shop, and it’s worth the drive. Also, you can eat your ice cream outside next to an actual waterfall. So cool. Literally.
Visit | 67 N Main St, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022
0 Below Rolled Ice Cream
To my knowledge, there is only one rolled ice cream shop in the Cleveland, Ohio area and that is on the east side at Coventry Village’s 0 Below Rolled Ice Cream & Bubble Tea shop.
It’s a fun experience and a way to eat ice cream so it definitely had to make the list. Note: Yelp says they are closed, I called and they are still open!
Visit | 1844 Coventry Road

Top Places To Get Ice Cream In Cleveland That Aren’t Ice Cream Shops
I’ve just shared many of Cleveland’s best ice cream shops with you. Now, I’m going to share some places you might not expect. These restaurants and sweet shops are worth the visit, especially for their ice cream treats.
Swensons Drive-In
Not only are you in for a delicious meal but their delicious, thick milkshakes are a must. Some would say this is N.E. Ohio’s version of In-N-Out and I would agree that it’s comparable. There are several Swensons Drive-In locations in the Cleveland and Akron Ohio areas and it looks like they have expanded into southern Ohio, too.
Visit | 7635 Broadview Road, Seven Hills, Ohio 44131

Colossal Cupcake
This cupcake shop is known for its colossal (no pun) sized cupcakes and is also known for its “Cake Shakes”, a delicious mix of cupcakes and ice cream that might be one of the best milkshakes you’ve ever had.
Visit | 528 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland Ohio, and other locations

Tommy’s Restaurant
Tommy’s Restaurant is a Cleveland institution known for its good food and its veggie and vegan offerings. But what they are really good at is making milkshakes. They make them so thick you’ll need a bigger straw. Their to-go cups are the cutest, too.
Visit | 1824 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights Ohio

Citizen Pie
Citizen Pie is a local pizza shop known for their quick-baking pizzas, but their house-made soft-serve ice cream is really good. It’s possible this delicious treat is not on their menu at all times so be sure to call ahead to check.
Visit | 2144 W 25th Street, Cleveland Ohio, and other locations.
Bonus: The Best Frozen Treat In The Cleveland Ohio Area
I just shared some amazing ice cream shops, but sometimes you might want something chilly that isn’t ice cream. I got you!
808 Shave Ice
This stuff is good, real good. Authentic shave ice with an assortment of flavors. They even serve it with ice cream (see, it fits the theme now). The first time I had some was at The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. It was so good we ordered a second one shortly after finishing. (It was an 80+ degree day outside!)
Visit | 3900 Wildlife Way Cleveland, OH 44109 and other N.E. Ohio locations

Ohio Frozen Treat Shops that are on my must-try list
There are a few shops out there that aren’t ice cream shops but have delicious-looking frozen treats I can’t wait to try out. Here are a few shops on my list.
Mount Granita is a fresh fruit Italian Ice shop located in the heart of Cleveland’s Little Italy | 2024 Murray Hill Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44106
Pop Culture CLE has gourmet homemade ice cream pops and fruit-flavored popsicles. | 33549 Solon Road, Solon, Ohio 44139
