10 Pizzas in Cleveland You Have To Try

Found In: Cleveland

Cleveland isn’t known as a pizza destination like New York and Chicago, but it can hold its own with some of the tastiest pies out there. Here are 10 pizzas in the Cleveland area that you just have to try.

Angelo’s Pizza

Lakewood, Ohio

The first time I had Angelo’s Pizza they were catering an event for a release party for a local magazine I helped work on. It was their baked potato pizza and it was love at first bite. This pizza had such a light crisp to its crust, and the flavor was so good. This pizza is filling, too. Just a slice or two and it feels like you ate a whole pizza.

Citizen Pie

Ohio City & Collinwood

We were excited to learn this pizza joint was coming to Ohio City with their yummy pies that are baked in front of you within 60 seconds. They also have a very tasty homemade soft serve ice cream I highly recommend.

Citizen Pie Roman Cafe

Downtown

Roman-inspired Pizza al Taglio (pizza by the slice, as their website translates) is one of the more unique pizzas on my list. There’s a very specific process they use to bake their pies and its result is one truly unique tasting pizza. There are layers and a light crispness to its texture and a collection of expected and unexpected flavors. A great spot to grab a slice for lunch while hanging out downtown.

Il Rione Pizzaria

Gordon Square Arts District

Il Rione Pizzaria is set in a cool, industrial building that has a simple pizza concept. They make a certain amount of dough each day because their process requires a set amount of time. This also means they will sell out and could possibly sell out if you are waiting to order later in the evening. It’s that good. There are three sauces and a handful of topping choices along with a few suggested combos. Don’t sleep on the salads, they are also quite tasty.

Harlow’s Pizza

Lakewood

Harlow’s Pizza… you go there for the very Instagramable look to be delighted in how good their pizza is. Their menu is simple and they bake your pie in front of you in their big oven.

Crust

Tremont & Midtown

Well known for their gigantic slices of pizza, Crust is a Tremont stable with delicious pizzas and other Italian fares. (Not kidding about the gigantic slices-they are almost the size of a pizza pie themselves!)

Edison’s Pizza Kitchen

Tremont

Edison’s is a great pizza spot in Tremont with yummy pies and is dog-friendly. (sorry no picture at this time 🙁 )

Dewey’s Pizza

Lakewood, Multiple Ohio locations

Simple pizzas, tasty salads. The best part is watching them make the pizzas while you wait for a table.

Vero Pizza Napoletana

Cleveland Heights

This is my only east side listing because admittedly I don’t get over to the east side very often but this pizza was tasty enough to get on the list. They had a good playlist while we were there, which was great because we did have to wait a long time. Luckily the pizzas were good. We visited pre-pandemic and will likely visit again someday when we’re out east.

Saucy Brew Works

Ohio City and other locations

They specialize in New Haven-style pizza or apizza, but we just get their white sauce with sausage and it’s: chefs kiss: They have great garlic knots, too.

Website | Address: 2885 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH

So that’s it, my list of 10 pizzas in Cleveland you have to try. did I list one of your favorites? Am I missing one that should be on this list? Let me know in the comments.

Did you know there is a book-themed brewery in Cle Did you know there is a book-themed brewery in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood? Bookhouse Brewing, a local brewery making ciders and beers in a historic building from the 1800’s previously owned by the Baehr family-read more on Bookhouse’s website about previous occupants and the interesting history. Lots of original details can be seen throughout the brewery, too. Definitely worth a visit when in town, it’s in the heart of one of the most popular Cleveland neighborhoods and minutes from Downtown Cleveland. In fact, due to a new park being built along the Cuyahoga River nearby, the brewery has an amazing view of downtown due to some buildings being taken down. Killer views, amazing interior aesthetic, and great beers (and other drinks for us non-beer drinkers!)

Check out my travel guides on the blog for more on the historic Ohio City neighborhood.
